Sierras

Colorado has fifty-two peaks over 14,000 feet. It may be wishful thinking, but I’d love to climb them all — nine down, forty-three to go. A great adventure to be had is to cross the Sierras with famed mountaineer Doug Robinson. Visit his website at movingoverstone.com.

Nepal

This has been the favorite adventure to date. I went with a girlfriend with whom I shared a great curiosity for Nepal. We had a month there on an extended trek led by an experienced climber and trekking guide named Kami Sherpa.

The vistas, sometimes hard earned, were breathtaking, humbling. The people we had the chance to visit with were kind beyond measure and willing to share half of what they had with us, total strangers.

It was a new experience to for a month move through life at the pace your feet could carry you. Any comfort seemed a great luxury … clean socks, fresh fruit … both rarities during the trek. It was a trip of profound proportion for both of us. Exotic and rare, beautiful and soul enriching.

Kenya

Kenya is God’s country. Pure majesty … a place I’d love to be able to go to again. The Kenyan’s we met were generous and strong and the beauty of their land unparalleled.

China

Having grown up in Japan I had always wanted to travel into China and few years ago I got my chance. Here I am in the dead of winter on The Great Wall. It doesn’t look it, but it was very very cold. Standing there you can just feel the centuries of history beneath you.

Canadian Rockies

I had the wonderful opportunity to spend time in Banff, Canada some years ago. While I have always been partial to the Rocky Mountains, I wasn’t prepared for the majesty of the Canadian Rockies. This is where I first was introduced to climbing, a sport I’m not very good at, but that I enjoy as long as a skilled climber is leading the way.

Egypt

My Mother and I had never been to Egypt and we decided to go off on an adventure together. We had a thrilling trip and standing beside such sculptures of antiquity as the Great Sphinx we couldn’t help but feel fairly inconsequential.

Skydiving

This was an adventure I don’t necessarily recommend, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed … skydiving. Talk about getting away. Its very beautiful up there and you are definitely on your own. However, there must be safer ways to achieve the same thrill.
